Hi, I’m Kylie Holmes. Born in Bedford, England, in October 1970, my name was inspired by a Mills & Boon romance novel my mum was reading during her pregnancy. At four, my family moved to Langford, Bedfordshire, where I grew up with my younger siblings, Kerry and Matthew. From an early age, I was captivated by storytelling, often creating tales in my bedroom. Roald Dahl was my childhood hero and continues to inspire me today.
A self-confessed science fiction enthusiast, I was introduced to classics like Star Trek, Quantum Leap, Blake’s 7, Doctor Who, and The War of the Worlds by my dad. These shows sparked my fascination with time travel, alien encounters, and the mysteries of the universe. An unforgettable family experience was witnessing a UFO sighting on our way back from my grandparents’ house—a story we still recount today.
Growing up, I aspired to be a journalist, PE teacher, or professional tennis player. Tennis remains a passion; I even won a national UK newspaper competition to play with Denise Lewis. Inspired by this, I trained as a tennis coach. Over the years, I’ve worked in various roles, including administration, hospitality, and as a hypnotherapist and mindfulness teacher. These experiences have enriched my storytelling with diverse perspectives.
Born on Halloween, I embrace the mysteries of the unseen world. I believe in ghosts and angels, having had personal experiences that defy scientific explanation. While some may be sceptical, I find comfort in knowing that many share similar encounters.
Above all, I’m a proud mum to Jade, Amba, Leo, and Ruby. Writing is my passion, and I love inspiring others—especially children and adults—to discover their own writing voices. When I’m not writing, you can find me walking my Border Collies or indulging in my love for creating new flavours of home-made ice cream and cheesecake.
